Data Recovery is kind of a user beware sort of field. There are unqualified “techs” out their advertising data recovery services, when they have little or no special training in the field. Then you have huge mega-companies that charge you 800 to a $3000 dollars for a simple software recovery that probably takes them less than 30 minutes of hands on time. My current recovery rate is 96%. The vast majority of those recoveries have been completed as basic software recoveries.
My charge for the average recovery, is $199 dollars. This is for a “typical” software based data recovery. An advanced software recovery (heavy file fragmentation, reformatted drive, severe file system damage, severe/repeated drive read errors) is $399 dollars. A hardware level drive repair (the hard drive has to be opened) is $799 dollars. If no data is recovered, the only charge is a $50 dollar diagnosis fee.
These fees get the experience and training of an individual certified as an Certified Computer Examiner, a Certified Data Recovery Professional, and a Computer Technician.
